In our July 1998 issue we asked: What's the most important thing a kid needs to know about the first day of school?   Laura Emerson shared this advice: I think the most important thing for a kid to know about the first day of school is that they may not feel like they fit in at first, but that after a while, they will find the group of friends they feel comfortable with and everything will fall into place.
